内容提要:

We all know that learning English well is very important for the 21st century university students in China, either to study abroad or to get a job in multinational companies.  But is it enough?  Dr. Liu, through his personal stories and compelling analysis, proves to you that being a good language learner is far from being sufficient in the multicultural and competitive world.  Dr. Liu will present to you what global competence entails, and explain why it is necessary for every student to obtain global competence and how.   The take-away from this motivational talk is two-fold:  To enable students to reflect on their own ways of learning English, and to seek alternatives to gain global competence by taking advantage of all opportunities including the very opportunity Dr. Liu has created for you in the 2017 Global Summer Institute at Stony Brook University in Long Island, New York, in the United States.
